Best shape - Utopia Kitchen Compost Bin for Kitchen Countertop

What I Like
- Stainless and good-looking. Thanks to steel, it looks easy to wash and is long-lasting.
- Easy to move and place anywhere, whether it can be under the sink or over the counter. Can be lifted and carried with ease which gives you free up space wherever and whenever you want.
- Charcoal filters are easily changeable, and that will ensure odorless.
What I Don't Like
- Charcoal filters have to be changed frequently. The ones that came with the bin don't do much for the smell.
- It gets pretty smelly in there, and because of the holes on top, fruit flies laid eggs and hatched all up in the filter. My bin was full of maggots and flies within a week.
- The lid needs to be removed manually, and it isn't easy to take it off. That means letting it open (and probably lousy smelling going out).
Utopia Kitchen Compost Bin for Kitchen Countertop
This stainless steel bin can seem like an ordinary kitchen bin, but I like its simplicity and practical use as a direct compost bin. When cooking with vegetables, organic waste should be thrown away easily and as soon as possible, avoiding putrefaction or even non-organic waste mixing. That's why this bin is, in my opinion, a great alternative to a good-looking countertop bin to have near while preparing your planted based meal. Charcoal filters, although they have to be changed regularly, make me love this simple design more because of the odorless perspective.
However, as a compost doer, I know how difficult things can become in terms of pests. And this holed-lid kitchen bin working as a direct compost bin makes me consider the alert. When the compost is new, and the composting process is not yet balanced, maggots and flies are easily attracted. They put their eggs over the fresh fruits and vegetable waste, and a holed lid is not the best way to avoid this. I would probably try to balance the compost as soon as possible or keep it away from those unpleasant friends.
Best design - Dullrout Compost Bucket Indoor Kitchen Sealed
Sustainable Warriors Score
What I Like
-
It has a button for an easy and clean open
-
The modern and discrete aspect
-
It has a removable inner bucket for easy emptying and washing
What I Don't Like
-
Its rectangular shape can be difficult to adapt to every kitchen
-
Prepared to be used with a plastic bag
Dullrout Compost Bucket Indoor Kitchen Sealed
This direct compost bin is one of the best indoor composters in terms of design. The fact that you can open the lid with an upper button makes it as practical as good looking. Although its shape is rectangular and not that easy to adapt to every kitchen, it looks discrete thanks to its white body and black lid. Also, the lid button lets you keep your kitchen out of unpleasant odors and pests. The inside bucket is removable and that, let me tell you, means the best indoor composter for tidiness fans. Monica Geller likes this.
But, the design also considers function. And although the removable bucket is great for cleaning, the seller also presents it as an option to be used with a plastic bag. This, for me, is not a good point for the composer. If composting is aimed at reducing waste, why use the composter with plastic bags?

What I Like
-
Useful to be used either on the countertop or under the sink, even hanging from the cabinet door.
-
Fancy white.
-
The lid can be put on the side for easy use while preparing a meal.
What I Don't Like
-
The material looks weaker than in other alternatives.
-
1.3 gallons can be a few for a family's organic waste. In just a meal preparation you may fill it.
-
It includes non-compostable bags.
Most functional - Tiyafuro Gallon Kitchen Compost Bin
When looking for a fancy Direct Compost Bin, this alternative will be perfect for you. It won in the combination of aesthetics and functionality. You can use it on the floor, on the countertop when cooking, hanging from the cabinet door, or even hanging from the wall taking advantage of the pasting board that is included.
It's the perfect option for an apartment or a small kitchen for a single person or a couple. It is not maybe the best alternative for family use: indeed, you will run out of space in plant-based meal preparation for more than two people. Anyway, it can be a good combination with an indoor or outdoor Vermiculture Compost container: as soon as it is full, you empty it for a higher composting level.
Best price - Joseph Joseph Compo 4 Easy
Sustainable Warriors Score
What I Like
-
Easy to store thanks to its dimensions.
-
Available in two colors: Stone and Graphite.
-
Available used for a second-hand purchase.
What I Don't Like
-
Not as aesthetic as other options available.
-
Only one hanging format.
-
Small capacity: not recommended for familiar use.
Best price - Joseph Joseph Compo 4 Easy
The Joseph Joseph Compo 4 Easy is a good starting point in direct compost or Bokashi Compost . It is not expensive and seems to be durable. It is not the best design in terms of style, but you will be able to choose between stone and graphite colours. It is valuable and practical for a small kitchen apartment, ideally for a single person. It also has the proper dimensions for the countertop or inside a cupboard door.
Seems to be a poor idea if you have a large family. As soon as you prepare some fruits and vegetables for the next meal, you will probably fill the composter. Also, you must know that it is an alternative to keep on the countertop or hang somewhere, and you will have to open it mechanically. Something is clear: costs are not an issue when composting.
Most complete - VermiHut Plus 5-Tray Worm Compost Bin
Sustainable Warriors Score
What I Like
-
It includes a component that increases air flow for better compost efficiency and saves worms
-
It also includes a set of ant-trap.
-
Extra trays can be added.
What I Don't Like
-
Standard non-stylish design.
-
You will find it in dark green and terracotta plastic.
-
Medium space needed.
Most complete - VermiHut Plus 5-Tray Worm Compost Bin
This Vermiculture Compost container is a complete option for the ones who already are into composting with worms. It includes five trays that can be joined to an extra one. The set also includes a well-explained manual with a detailed step-by-step. What's more, the design contemplates a component to increase airflow for better compost efficiency and save worms and another one of coconut fiber that built in the air-vented lid odor removal, moisture control, and fruit fly control.
An incredible extra is the ant trap to avoid ant pests, especially if you consider using the composter outdoors. If we are talking about the best indoor comporters, something to consider is that you will need space for this kind of container and it is probably not the best option for an apartment or small home.
Best equipped - The Squirm Firm Worm Factory 360 Worm Composting Bin

What I Like
-
Perfectly equipped for beginners in composting
-
It has legs that separate it from the ground: good point against pests and for cleaning in case of indoor use.
-
The lid is designed to be a practical support for the trays while collecting the compost.
What I Don't Like
-
Not a stylish item
-
You will find it in black
-
It is an expensive alternative
Best equipped - The Squirm Firm Worm Factory 360 Worm Composting Bin
For Vermiculture Compost lovers and newbies, this is one of the best indoor composters because it means a complete and exciting experience. You will find four trays of standard size, which are expandable up to 8 trays. And what I value is the fact that the lid can be used to support the tray while you are collecting the compost without leaving the floor dirty with leachate.
It also includes a digital instructional manual with a step-by-step guide for managing your Worm Factory 360. You will also receive an infographic refrigerator magnet (6" by 9") that allows you to quickly determine which foods are perfect for your worms and which you should avoid. As soon as you get attached to your worms, you will be worried about their diet, believe me!

What I Like
-
Cool and modern design for indoor use
-
Compact shape and size, easy to handle
-
Cheaper than other vermiculture composters in market
What I Don't Like
-
Just two trays
-
It doesn't come with worms
-
It has short legs, so be careful if you have any pets
Best design - Maze Worm Farm Composter
This worm composter seems to be the coolest in town. Although it is small and specially considered for a small group of people or a single person, it is easy to store inside your house, even as part of the decoration. I like the rounded corners and its general aspect. I wish we would find more color combinations; black and bright green are ok.
Although just two shallow trays may seem little, I would try it. In the end, it will also mean a faster-composting process. I think it is not the best option for outdoor use, especially if you have a dog or any pet. But ideally for indoor composting as soon as you find your worm team!

What I Like
-
Available in gray, black, purple, and green.
-
Long legs to keep away from the floor
-
Worm tea collector.
What I Don't Like
-
Small, ideally for a small family
-
Just two trays
-
The big holes in trays may let worms escape
Most fancy - The Essential Living Composter
A beautiful composter that is ideal for minimalist design apartments. Is made out of BPA free, UV-inhibited recycled polypropylene that is contact-safe and will not degrade under direct sunlight, so you can also use it in a fancy outdoor garden. I would try wood legs for an even more excellent aspect.
It is small, so that would mean you will fill it quickly. The brand assures one-year odor free, which makes me think that it is something the customer needs to check. Also, tray holes seem a bit big to me to avoid worms escaping when compost is starting. Also, something we need to check in use. Anyway, this composter broke the heart of more than one in terms of aesthetics, and indeed that will define a winner for design lovers.

Best compact design - Skaza Bokashi Organko
This interesting Bokashi composter is an excellent alternative to the best indoor-composter and it has the vibe of Japanese culture. It includes everything you will need to start: the outer container, an inner container, the lid, a cup tool, a stopper, a graduated spoon for the activator, a carry strap, 1kg of the essential EM activator for Bokashi, and an instruction manual. Although it probably won't be in English (you will need shipping from Finland), there are many tutorials you can use instead.
The aspect is as strange as attractive. The only color available is brown-beige, but it seems to be an adaptable color to every kitchen decor. Maybe visitors will ask for that fancy and practical bokashi composter bin!

It is proper to keep in your kitchen, garage, or apartment. Ideal for family use. You have to be careful of pets, they are commonly attracted by Bokashi freshness.
